The Power: The Great Discovery

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe...      — Ephesians 1:19a

God has given to the Christian not just power, but exceedingly great power!  This power is His ability, His provision, His miracle-working supernatural power, given to the Church.  Yet we see very little power in operation beyond natural human power in people’s lives.  Paul is praying here not so you would get the power, but that you would get a revelation and understanding of the power you already possess!  The availability of and potential for electricity to light up every home was always there for mankind, but not until a man named Thomas Edison discovered and learned to harness that power in a single lightbulb did mankind's standard of living profit from it.  Now is the time for the Church to discover and harness the “exceeding great” power which is available to it!  It is to us-ward who believe!

...according to the working of His mighty power...    — Ephesians 1:19b

Here Paul describes the exceedingly great power we possess.  It was enough power to raise Christ from the dead, to seat Him in heavenly places, to position Him far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, now and forever.  What a mighty power, and what an awesome position Christ was placed in, by the working of God the Father’s power!  How He should rule and reign in His heavenly seat!  But verse 22 states He put all things under His feet and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the Church!  He has put all things under the feet of the Church, and has raised us and seated us “far above”!  Oh, the potential the Church has been given, the potential you have been given!  When we step out into our power and God-given position, things will start to change in this world.  The power is here!  The ability is here!  It is to us-ward–-now start to believe!

Which is His Body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all.  — Ephesians 1:23

The Body of Christ has the opportunity through the power given it to become the fullness of Him.  We have been predestined to be conformed to the image of His dear Son (Rom. 8:29).  The day is coming shortly when Christ again will live in His fullness here on the earth-–through His Body, the Church.  The power in you is the Person of Christ.  This means you have Christ-potential in you!  You have access not only to His power, but also to His knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that are in you!  The possibilities available to every Christian are according to the measure of the gift of Christ (Eph. 4:7).  This gift to you of power, the gift of Christ, now desires to be revealed in you and through you.  Revelation will allow the One living in you to manifest His life through you.  The goal:  that Christ may dwell in your heart by faith (Eph. 3:17); that you may be the fullness of Him.  This places you far above all sickness, demons, fears, and circumstances.  This power will give you a victorious lifestyle, the lifestyle that belongs to you!

The Power: The Great Power In You

Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, —  Ephesians 3:20

There is no question that Almighty God can do all things, that He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all!  He is almighty, He is all-powerful; after all, He is God!  But notice the whole verse:   His ability to do is “according to the power that worketh in us”!  It’s not by the power that works in Him, it’s by the power that works in us!  The Church believed for years that to deny having any power was humility:  “God has all the power.”  That is not humility, that is ignorance of the exceeding greatness of His power to you!  To believe that you have no power is to have no power working in you, which stops God’s ability to “do.”  There is power in you, but the power needs to be at work in you.  Stir up the gift you have in you!  Believe it, confess it, tell others of the gift of God and watch it go to work.
